The
Cause is All

We live our lives, each one of us, for a while,
Live by what we believe in, hold on to.
If worthy, light wicks in others’ lives
Of inspiration to follow, build on, carry forward
The human cause — that’s the best we can do,
The best amongst us do; do a bit, our little bit,
To the common cause, even as the stream of life
Flows on, swift and sure, and bears us away.
Important, above all, is the Cause, the larger Cause,
Of human advancement. The. Lord’s land cannot lie fallow.
We are but artisans, faceless, obscure, passing,
Who needs must plough ourselves into the task
That the Great Temple of God might arise
In all glory, to stand for all time,
Ourselves, after our day, lost in the shadows.
To have been part of the Cause is our reward
The Chariot of Jagannath must roll on.
