SYLLABIC REFLECTIONS
DURGADAS
MUKHOPADHYAY
[These
recent poems are fusions of the traditions of short poetry in different
languages like Japanese, Sanskrit, French, Urdu and Bengali. In essence, the
poems imbibe the form of Haiku, the prosody of Sanskrit verse and the
musicality of Bengali poetry. The theme and content of the poems are
contemporary, contemplative, satiric, sensuous or simply funny.]
The
moonbeam gleam
of your face
spontaneously delights
like twilight.
Sniffing,
sneezing through
the winter chill
hoping the bells of spring
to ring.
The
marriage party has left,
all that remains
is the silence betw'n
the newly-weds.
A
mirror in your hand
helps you to have
a glimpse of something
which you don’t see
otherwise.
The
city, the house,
the room, the bed
is the nest
where I incubate.
The
canopy of darkness
engulfed the house
and the inhibitions
of its inhabitants.
Fix
up a role
and play it well
in this world
of court jesters.
