Reminiscence of an age

Manas Bakshi

Left with us today

The skeleton of an age

When beauty was

An ascription of life itself

And the common man needed no trick

Just to live,

Nor did he lose faith in

The serenity of a cosmic order

When a world of perceptions appeared meandering

Much as an enigmatic route

To the present day secular feelings -

Something was there to win over

The disquietude in and around him:

Something flowing as

Mother’s love in child’s vision,

Something we long to lose

In the replay of a faded tune,

Something evocative in a voice

Echoing deathless songs for lost moments

While pondering over the mystery behind

Being versus nothing

Not being above the mortal coil

Just to know

A swirling leaf, this life

In the face of a storm

Rumbling over a roaring sea

Is all but inscribed

Against the infinite.
