A Prose Poem

I FEEL FRUSTRATED

R. Surya Narayan

I feel frustrated as I see no way to solve my problems,

Each problem looms large like a setting mountain

In the dark shades of twilight they bulge into an apparitions,

With whiskers big and claws sharp,

They dance and rhyme with the changing colours of the sky

And make signs of pouncing in their eerie shapes

As darkness envelops they seem to gain in strength

And start howling like jackals on prowl

Breaking the serenity of the night

While I descend into bed the night sky spreads its canopy,

Thwarting all attempts of a midnight assault

They growl and howl going in rounds

Till they sight the dawn in its orange robes

And recede in rows in different directions

Getting reduced into dots to vanish into the air.

I feel frustrated as I see no way to solve my problems

As I proceed along the dark alleys

With head bent weighed down with thoughts

With nothing to inspire except the genuineness of the cause,

Trying to put the best into each effort,

Loading the barrel with new cartridges

Determined to pull the trigger using all my might

With the heart pounding hoping to hit the target,

But lo! a local street storm straight from the blue

Making everything pell-mell

Myself drenched all over, the cartridges damp squibs,

The flickering torch proving no match

To the din and dust raging around

Compelling retreat to the safe vault of the house.
