A GOOD ACT

Smt. Bhavana S. Chary

An act of goodness, a deed of kindness:

Is what leads to a phenomenal surge of Happiness;

What is this life, if full of care;

When there is no time to stand and stare!

In such a weather – beaten life, full of greedy people;

With none a thought for the needy and miserable;

won’t a simple act of kindness change the world to a haven;

won’t joy, mirth, insurmountable happiness descend therein!

Good, whether in small or large proportions;

Will assure them and bless us in recognition;

of our outward disposition, as ‘christ’ doth preach to

say “to do good to others as you expect

others to do good unto you!”

As a lady, generously, giving alms to a beggar

As a king donating clothes and gold coins to the meagre

As a child helping the blind man to cross the street

As a soldier marching to defend his land or his beat!

Like a maiden, god-sent, offering water in a sandy desert

to a caravan of travellers, with parched

throats and feet distraught;

Like a fisherman bringing a drowned man

To the shore at sea;

Even a villager, offering single meal to a

poor stranger, starved and hungry!

To bridge the gap, betwixt the rich and poor, the young and old;

To tell as a mother, to a burnt child, who the fire dreads;

To help a boy, like a saving soul, not to turn to bad ways

Didn’t God send word to mankind that

goodness, in whatever form always pays!
